Poetry And The Teaching Of The French Language
Abstract
This study deals with the role of poetry in the French language classroom, and its importance in developing students linguistic, expressive, and assimilation skills. Poetry is characterized by the unique writing form like verse, rhythm, repetition, and poetic images, and also it is characterized by rich language which arouses the feelings and imagination of the reader. In this research, we also deal with the role of poetry in developing the personality of the students through the themes that attract their attention. We also deal with the importance of reading which contributes to perfect understanding and poetic culture of students. Also, poetry helps acquire new vocabularies and enrich the lexical baggage. Poetry can help develop the readers pronunciation, imagination, grammar ,and cultural knowledge. On the other hand, in this study, we discuss the role of the teacher in transmitting knowledge and encouraging students to read poetry, it is considered a model that most students try to emulate. Finally, we deal with the choice of poems and the essential criteria such as the taste, the feeling and, the linguistic capacity of the student.
