The Convergence of Semantic Origins for Different Linguistic Roots in Maqaees Al-Lugha , “cutting” for Example
Abstract
Finding a general common name related to one-rooted derivations is something unique where characteristics of the Maqaees Al-Lugha lexicon catches the language learners attention especially lexicon. It is hardly mentioned in any other lexicon that studies the words of the language in its entire from in the old language dictionaries; This can be ascribed to the way that Ibn Faris (d. 395 AH) identifying the pivotal connotations that he made later as the origins of his roots lexicon. It is not a secret that Ibn Faris made his lexicon strong because he depended on verbal basis considering the alphabetical arrangement when adding the roots to each other. Ibn Faris invented the recycling system, However, the semantic rooting of the root derivatives took the greatest part of his interest in the lexicon; It was hardly departed from the roots that he mentioned. The idea of the research paper is based on the fact that the different linguistic roots mentioned by Ibn Faris may converge in general origins (general meanings of root derivatives), which Ibn Faris proposed either as an abstraction from the extrapolation of root derivations and finding a meaning that combined them, or through directness; The general meaning was taken from the meaning of one of the derivatives of the root, and all other derivatives of the root bore this meaning. The convergence of roots in semantic origins is a phenomenon worth stopping at, the convergence of different roots in the semantic origin of the cutting has been considered for this research. Our concern is focusing on what led Ibn Faris to make cutting the origin of these roots, and what is the difference in cutting between these roots.
