The Use of the Graphic Novel in Teaching French as a Foreign Language
Abstract
The research aims to use the graphic novels as educational and linguistic support in French class as a foreign language in order to develop the level of students' education. The paper consists of two parts, namely theoretical and practical. The theoretical part focuses on four communicative skills addressed by the graphic novel, while the practical part encompasses flashcards that present the ideas and topics addressed in the theoretical part. The sample of these cards was students of the second level of language (A2). We can conclude that the graphic novel plays an important role in FLE education. We find that the graphic novel is a technique and art that can be used as a teaching medium in the language classroom. The richness and value of the graphic novel create in the teacher the conviction to present it without hesitation as a teaching aid in his course. Therefore, he will have to teach as he sees fit according to the tasks predetermined in his syllabus. Finally, speaking of tolerance/respect, the teacher can approach the graphic novel from a cultural point of view.
