The Eastern Other in the Literature of European Travelers
Abstract
The idea of this research (the eastern other in the literature of European travelers) is summarized first: in the historical definition of the mergence of the dualism of the ego and the other; With regard to their cultural dimension; Within the relationship of the East with the European other. What is concerned with the East here is the Middle East.
Second: The research sheds light on the idea of the other in the writings of European travelers, with a set of achievements and perceptions contained in this literary trend, represented by letters, reports and books of European travelers about the East. Explaining how the literature of European travelers shortened the East and turned it into a dreamy given; It meets the need of the Europeans for some kind of fun and to stay away from the strictness of the material reality, but at the expense of the reality of the East, which many travelers have been striving to shorten, and focus on its romantic dimension and on the side of excitement; With the obliteration of the reality of the East and its real suffering at the time.
Third: The research seeks to reveal the volume of information, perceptions and attitudes left by the travelers writings that worked to form a stable and deep theme about the East in the whole of the European mind, packed with ideological, religious and historical loads that established a negative dichotomy between East and West.
