Manifestations of Violence in Mahmoud Saeed's Novel The Truck
Abstract
This study aims to show the manifestations of violence in Mahmoud Saeed's novel "The Truck". The contemplator on the manifestations of violence in novels, especially contemporary ones, notices that the issue of violence has settled in most contemporary Arab societies, for many reasons; including political, social, physical, and economic. This phenomenon had negative effects on the Arab cities, which witnessed a radical transformation in the relations of its members to each other, and their relations with their surroundings, which became characterized by a constant feeling of insecurity. This affected the psychological levels, and contributed to the dismantling of the collective sense of loneliness through the spread of individuality, and the constant fear of the future.
In order to achieve study objectives, the researcher employed an analytical approach, which depends on the collection of the scientific article by taking into account the different aspects of "The Truck" novel, and then the use of analytical approach to indicate and clarify the manifestations of violence within the novel, which the author is keen to recruit and highlight. Based on this consideration, the researcher began by defining the manifestations of violence and its effects in literary studies, and then ended by examining the manifestations of violence in Mahmoud Saeed's novel "The Truck".
Among the most important findings of the study, the forms of violence drawn by novelist and writer Mahmoud Said in his novel reveals the reality of the novelist vision of violence as a political theme deserved for studying due to the current situation in the country, and what the prisoners and captives faced in prisons at Iraq and Syria in the forms of torture, beatings, liquidation and subjugation by the ruling authorities or the colonial authorities. But the novelist "Mahmoud Saeed", like other novelists, is interested in historical documentation of events, which makes the novel an aesthetic pleasure, and impresses the recipient with persuasiveness, impact, and interest.
The study recommended studying the literary narrative forms in "The Truck" novel.
