Aspects of grief in "Brother of Soul" by David Diop and "The grief tends to joke" by Mohammed Mustajab
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to provide a summary of the salient features of expressions of mourning. Grieving is a natural reaction to loss or impending loss. Although universal, its verbal and non-verbal manifestation differs between cultures and people. A loss-causing incident is one that is viewed as unpleasant by the parties involved to different degrees and has the potential to cause lasting changes in a person's relationships and cognition. The disparity between the two occurs because the languages used by mourners to communicate their grief are different from those used by specialists. The data is limited to David Diop's novel "Soul Brother" and Mohammed Mustajab's novel "The Grief Tends to Joke". The research paper concludes that the struggle of human beings against certain social challenges is the source of grief in these two books. In addition, everyone experiences sadness, it differs from person to person depending on their environment and where they live.
