Abstract

Strait of Hormuz , throughout its modern and contemporary history , enjoyed a great strategic, political and economic importance , a positive and influential role, whether regionally or internationally, as it is one of important waterways for international trade movement and is considered the only maritime port for some Arab countries located on Arabian Gulf, as it links waters of Arabian Gulf with international waters. For a long time , European countries sought to control it and impose their dominance on waters of Arabian Gulf.Strait of Hormuz is located between Sultanate of Oman from south and Iran from northeast. For Sultanate of Oman, it represents its regional borders , its security side and an integral part of its national security and national sovereignty . It was the eighties during The First Gulf War (1980 - 1988), when danger extended to threaten Strait of Hormuz , oil outlet for global countries . Such situation prompted Sultanate of Oman to take bold measures politically and military with foreign countries, where foreign countries considered that threatening Strait of Hormuz and obstructing navigation in it leads to threat their security interests, and thus requires their Military intervention by obtaining some facilities from Arab Gulf states to prevent any threat to security and safety of the strait.
