Eating Disorders and their Relation to Problem Solving among Housewives in Erbil City Center: A Field study

Abstract

The researchers in their current research, aimed to identify the levels and significance of the differences and correlation in eating disorders, "measures of bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa" and the measure of problem solving, and to measure the ability of each of the measures of bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa to predict problem solving among (200) housewives in Erbil city center. According to the variables such ass (social status, number of children, age, economic status). The researchers adopted the Eating Disorders Scale, which consisted of the two measures of bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa prepared by (Darwish, 2014), and the problem solving scale prepared by the researchers. The values of validity and reliability of the scales were acceptable. After applying the scales together on the research sample and processing the data using (Spss: the results showed the following: The presence of statistically significant indicators of the level of bulimia nervosa at the level of significance (0.05) in favor of housewives. The presence of statistical indicators of the level of anorexia nervosa and problem solving at the level of significance (0.01) and (0.05) for the benefit of society. Housewives who are emotionally divorced, and those who have (4 to 6 children), age (26 years to 32 years) and those with poor economic status are more troubled by bulimia nervosa. And housewives who are emotionally divorced, age (33 years to 40 years), and those who have poor economic status is more troubled in anorexia nervosa. And married housewife, age (41 years and above), and those who have good economic status are more able to use the positive trends in solving problems. And the result shows a negative correlation relationship between problem solving and each of the bulimia nervosa and anorexia nervosa at the level of significance (0.01),(0.05). bulimia nervosa had the highest statistically significant contribution in the ability to predict problem-solving among housewives. In light of the results, the researchers presented some recommendations and suggestions.
