since there is no basic agrement on the definition of the term steam of consciousness it remains of the most controversial ot the literary terms . The aim of this paper is not to complicate the matter by offering a new definition but to attempt to harmonize some contradictory points fo views which may enable us to examine the validity of applying the term to astudy .
