The High Ranks in the mamluk Military Army According to Al- Waf bil Wafiyyat of Al-Safadi (D. 764 A.H. /1363 A.C.)
Abstract
The mamluk state was a military state par excellence; one of the main aspects of it is the sophisticated military system. In this research we aims to shed light on the higher ranks in this system thorough the work of Al-Safadis ( Al-Wafi bil Wafayat) who devoted substantial space of his book to the military posts. The higher military rank is the Amir Miia( Amir of hundred) Muqadam of Alf( The leader of thousands). This is the highest rank in the Mamluk Military systemand the holder of the rank enjoy many privileges. The second rank is the Amir of Tabilkhana(The Amir with Drums). This rank distinct the Amir with military drumbbing in front of him.
