Facet Taxonomy and its Applications in Search Engines for Websites of Iraqi Universities : An Analytical Study
Abstract
The research aims to identify Facet Taxonomy and its applications in the search engines of websites. It follows the descriptive analytical approach to covering the practices of Facet Taxonomy in the searching and retrieval process of information on websites, and The survey approach, which includes the study of applications of Facet Taxonomy in a sample of (21) Iraqi public universities websites at webometrics classification, that have active search engines. The data collection tools included direct examination through the checklist. The research came out with many results, the most important of which are: 1.It is clear that most of the research sample (71.42%) does not include the visible search box on the website. 2.Regarding the search options as one of Facet Taxonomy applications, we find that all websites (100%) do not provide an apparent search box that enables users to type in search words or phrases, as well as shows the location of the search engine on the website. 3.Websites provide (95.23%) a visible search button, all marked with the lens symbol. The research came out with many recommendations, the most important of which are: 1.Provide a box visible with a button tagged with the term (search) to users on websites as the basics of the search engine. 2.Mix Facet Taxonomy with the search engine as a drop-down list (search options) that includes main navigation categories (Global navigation) to broaden and narrow the search process.
