The relationship between the Bashmur Copts and the Abbasid Governors in Egypt (227-132 Ah 750 Ah / 831AD)
Abstract
The Abbasid state was established following the victory over the Umayyad state in 132 Ah / 700 AD after the killing of the last Umayyad caliph Marwan bin Mohammed in Egypt by the forces of Abu Abbas Alsafaah and the transfer of the capital from Damascus to Kufa, and the Abbasids received the aid and assistance of the rebelling Copts against the Umayyads, so the Abbasids initially called for the Egyptians in general and Copts in particular, they showed good faith at first because they needed them, but as soon as things turned to them, the treatment with them changed from smooth to rough and increased their cruelty to them, and in response to this policy of the Abbasids, the Bashmur announced the inhabitants of the Delta many revolutions because of the mistreatment of the governors and increased tribute and abscess on the villa When these revolutions ended during the reign of caliph Al-Maamoun in 217 Ah 832 A.D., after he eliminated the Bashmurian revolts.
