Abstract

The scientific life in the city of Damascus greatly developed during the time of the Ayyubids and Mamluks, and this city became a center of science, the light of which extended to the most distant Muslim country, the most important reason for this scientific development was the presence of many educational institutions in Damascus during the rule of these two countries, such as the mosques, which numbered about (629), the houses of the Noble Quran and the noble hadith, which were numbered (26), in addition to (127) schools of jurisprudence, three schools of medicine, and dozens of other educational institutions such as al Ribat, al khanqah, al zzawiyya, as well as graves (turba), it is necessary to employ this large number of schools with a larger number of teachers, so the teaching job has gained great importance among those responsible for education in Damascus, and this city is also distinguished by having dozens of scientific families, who its scholars held the teaching position from one generation to the generation, and this is also one of the reasons for the development of educational schools, which have maintained their scientific sobriety for several centuries, due to the fact that this job remains in the hands of its scholars throughout those years.
