Abstract

The biogeographical location of the cities of the Bilad-AL - Sham coast by land and sea and its important economic wealth has enabled it to take the lead in east-west trade, so its commercial centers played an important role in the activity during that period. The location of the Levant, which is distinguished between east and west and its extension on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean and its proximity to ancient regions and civilizations, made it play an influential role in trade, especially foreign ones, thanks to its own ports with privileged locations with many good things, making it therefore a source of trade. It is an important transit for the transport of goods from east to west and vice versa. The port cities of the eastern Mediterranean basin during the Crusades period played that prominent economic and commercial role because they fell on the coastal commercial line, which gave them the advantage of trading with other Mediterranean shores, whether the European, Maghreb or Egyptian coasts, and it was truly a prosperous factor for world trade due to its mediating role in trade.
