Intellectual freedom and civilizational forms Our identity and what lies beyond it in the thought of the Islamic thinker Hassan Hanafi
Abstract
From a decisive civilizational point of view, Hassan Hanafi expresses a cultural vision and desire in Islamic thought that works to address the reality of Arab thinking and strive to get rid of the restrictions of religious beliefs that stifle human creativity. With this step, the renewal of Islamic thought in the Arab world should result in a new concept of religion and introduce a free cultural revolution. She goes on to develop a new theology with a progressive perspective on life rooted in liberation and social justice. It aims to liberate the Arab-Islamic society from decline and fragmentation, and to produce a just, prosperous and civilized society.Influenced by modern Western philosophy, Hassan Hanafi desires a major cultural revolution in the Arab-Islamic world, which can promote progress toward an integrated civilizational construction and limit the decline of religiosity in the Arab world. Hanafi raises his argument that this decline occurred because many contemporary Arabs view religion as an individual issue, and therefore it is a religious, institutional, and educational obstacle to the first epistemological bases on which freedom of thought is built. From this standpoint, this study provides an intellectual framework for analyzing Hassan Hanafi's new theological ideas using a cultural perspective, as well as practical practice in an attempt to build societal and individual equality, justice before the law, and support for human rights.
