Abstract

Prose continued to develop and many literary genres emerged from it,dominated by the novel, which turned into a literary genre. To providethe necessary conditions that he needs, and this dominance and authoritythat the novel enjoyed made it an incubator for literary genres close to it,including: the epistle, which formed with the novel a new genre called(the epistolary novel). The epistolary novel is derived from two ancientliterary genres: one of them is ancient, which is the epistle. The lasthadith is the narration. Accordingly, the epistolary novel is a narrativetext consisting of a group of letters that follow a narrative path, and itspeculiarity is evident in the fact that it lacks dialogue between thecharacters, and describes ideas, feelings, and sensations. Instead of theconflict that takes place in the life of the hero, we find that the scenesmay be summarized and some memories and openings presented inthem. They are often shorter than those written in a traditional novel, and the writer uses the I pronoun, which enables him to access thedepths and thoughts of the character in the literary work, and gives thenarrator the option of keeping some details for another time, Theresearch is based on the novel City of Allah by Hassan Hamid, as apure model that represents the epistolary novel It gives a comprehensiveoverview of the topic.
