In addition, it tries to assess the learners' ability and performance at the production level. In order to achieve the aims of the research, a diagnostic test has been conducted and it is distributed on 100 students from thei4th iyearistudents in the English department of the College of Education for Humanities at the University of Mosul. The students are chosen randomly from the academic year 2019-2020. The test is exposed to jury members in order to determine its validity. The reliability coefficient of the test was 0.81. The results indicate that both the recognition and the production questions have statistical differences: the test demonstrates that the learners have achieved better at the recognition level than that of the production one.
