The impact of artificial intelligence in reducing traffic congestion and bottlenecks in the holy Karbala Governorate (the old city sector as a model)
Abstract
In recent years, interest has emerged in this sector, which is considered a revolution in various sectors, including transportation. Road safety is one of the most important areas in which artificial intelligence can have a significant impact. So, the question is what is the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing road l
With the increasing number of vehicles on the road, traffic accidents have become a major concern worldwide. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 1.35 million people die each year as a result of road traffic accidents. Therefore, solutions must be provided to reduce the increasing risks resulting from accidents. Artificial intelligence provides with its advanced capabilities in data analysis, machine learning and real-time processing, promising solutions to enhance road safety and reduce accidents. There are some traffic management systems based on artificial intelligence, which are / AI-based traffic management systems, which are one of the primary ways in which artificial intelligence enhances road safety and is through intelligent traffic management systems. Traditional traffic management relies heavily on static traffic signals and signals, which can lead to inefficiency and increased accidents. AI-based traffic management systems use real-time data from various sources, such as cameras, sensors and GPS devices, to monitor traffic flow and make dynamic adjustments.
For example, AI can optimize traffic signal timing based on current traffic conditions, reducing congestion and reducing the risk of accidents at intersections. These systems can also predict traffic patterns and provide real-time alerts to drivers about potential hazards, such as sudden traffic jams or roadblocks, enabling them to take alternative routes and avoid accidents, especially since the study area experiences heavy traffic congestion during peak times, especially in the morning and during the end of work in government departments, as well as during daily or weekly visits or large visits such as (the Shaabaniyah visit and the Arbaeen visit of Imam Hussein). And others. The researchers also focused through the research on identifying how to reduce congestion and bottlenecks and the tools used, and the study concluded with proposals and recommendations....
