Building a Listening Skill Scale for Mosul University Students
Abstract
The current research aimed to build a scale of listening skill among students of the University of Mosul, and the researcher used the descriptive approach in building the scale. By reviewing the literature and previous studies, (5) dimensions of listening skill were identified (the first dimension: hearing and interpretation, the second dimension: understanding and comprehension, the third dimension: remembering, the fourth dimension: evaluation, the fifth dimension, response). Then face validity of the scale items was extracted, by presenting it to a group of experts whose number reached (20) experts in the field of educational and psychological sciences, measurement and evaluation. The researchers adopted an agreement rate of (80%) or more, The number of paragraphs of the scale after extracting the face validity reached (50) items for each dimension (10) paragraphs and then distributed to an exploratory sample consisting of (30) male and female students, The construction sample consisted of (432) male and female students. Then the discrimination coefficient was calculated and (3 paragraphs) were omitted as they were undistinguished, And deleted seven paragraphs that have the lowest grades to be the final number of paragraphs (40) paragraphs. , then the internal consistency of the scale was extracted by finding the correlation between the scores of the scale paragraphs and the total score and the paragraph with the scale's domains. The stability of the scale also extracted by the method of retesting, where the value of the stability was (0.79), and by the method of the Alpha Cronbach coefficient, where it reached (0.88). The highest score on the scale was (200) and the lowest score (40) with a hypothetical mean of (120) and thus the scale is ready for application, then some conclusions and recommendations were made.
