Artificial Intelligence as a Pragmatic Analyzer: A Study of the Poem "Hadbaa" by Walid Al-Sarraf
Abstract
This study explores the capability of artificial intelligence in conducting a pragmatic analysis of poetic texts, given its increasing role in education and research. The significance of this paper lies in shedding light on this emerging aspect of scientific inquiry. After establishing the theoretical framework of pragmatics and Speech Act Theory, the researcher applied a pragmatic analysis to Walid Al-Sarrafs poem "Hadbaa" using AI, specifically ChatGPT. The research employed a descriptive-critical approach, analyzing ChatGPTs interpretation of the poem, then evaluating its strengths and weaknesses. The study focused on two key pragmatic aspects: Speech Acts, which form the foundation of pragmatics, and Deixis, linguistic elements whose meaning depends on context. These were used to assess AIs ability to interpret texts within their contextual framework.Findings revealed that ChatGPT demonstrated a solid grasp of pragmatic analysis and contextual understanding, effectively interpreting the poems meanings and themes. However, some methodological inconsistencies and brevity in responses were observed.
