Female circumcision and its impact on human dignity

Abstract

Female circumcision, a traditional practice rooted in societal customs, poses significant risks to women's physical health and dignity. This practice infringes upon women's rights to health, physical integrity, and uniqueness, as protected by international conventions and national laws. While some societies view female circumcision as a symbol of purity and honor, it can lead to shame and social exclusion for those who do not undergo it. The debate surrounding the permissibility and criminalization of this practice has led some countries to enact laws prohibiting it due to its violation of women's human dignity.
