Abstract
Ancient monuments and archaeological sites are global records of the world history. these sites present the historical depth of each country that demonstrates what man has gone through and the accomplishments has been attained over successive stages of time. In addition to its historic importance, these sites are of public interest by reasons of traditions, artistic, archeological interest. Thus, historical sites are considered an important source to develop tourism and to attract tourists to visit these historical places and learn about their history. Therefore, international treaties and national laws protect these sites as heritage assets and emphasising the importance of conserving and enhancing these sites . the UAE law protects ancient monuments and archaeological sites. The legislator issued Federal Law ( 6 /2008) which established the National Council for Tourism and Archeology. This Law is later reinforced by Federal Law ( 11/ 2017) on the Protection of Archaeological Sites. On the local level, the legislator of Sharjah took an early initiative to provide legal protection for archaeological sites. The Antiquities Law ( 1 )was passed in 1991, then followed by Law ( 2 /2017) regulating Sharjah Archeology Authority. This study aims at finding out the legislative protections provided to archeological sites under the emirate law following an analytical and inductive research method of relevant laws and regulations.
