The 2020 Azerbaijan-Armenia War and Turkey’s Stance
Abstract
The research aims to shed light on the internal and external factors that led to the continuation of this conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia and the outbreak of the second war between the two countries in 2020 over the Nagorno-Karabakh region and the position and role of Turkey in this war. The importance of the research lies in the fact that it deals with a two-decade-long conflict between two neighboring countries over the Nagorno-Karabakh region, and the effects of this conflict on the region politically, economically, and security-wise. The research question centered on answering two main questions: What is the strategic importance of the Nagorno-Karabakh region for both Azerbaijan and Armenia to be one of the most important reasons that led to this conflict? How did Turkey's position on the war change the balance of power in favor of Azerbaijan? The research included an introductory introduction, eight themes as well as the conclusion and conclusions, the most important of which was that Turkey had a decisive role in ending the war over Nagorno-Karabakh between Armenia and Azerbaijan in favor of the latter, which contributed to achieving security stability and consolidating common strategic interests in the region between both Azerbaijan and Turkey.
