Abstract

The historical accounts related to the biography of Nur al-Din Mahmoud bin Zangi, which was transmitted by the historian Abu Shama al-Maqdisi (d. 665 AH / 1267 AD) through his book (Al-Rawdatain fi Akhbar Al-Dawlat Al-Nuriya wa Al-Salihiyah) are among the most important of what was reported on the biography of this Mujahid, as it included many historical accounts that varied between Narratives about his life and upbringing in terms of his name and lineage, his most important personal characteristics, and between accounts that refer to his jihad, his conquests, his management, and his various achievements, including urban and economic, and many other such achievements
The aim of the research was to highlight those many achievements that were celebrated in the life of Nur al-Din Mahmoud bin Zangi and his role in leading the nation in a period of time that witnessed the height of the Islamic Crusade conflict and to establish a future stage that can be called the stage of conquest, victory and the unity of the Arab and Islamic nation.
The research also dealt with a brief summary of the life of Abu Shama al-Maqdisi and his efforts in writing history and the historical resources and sources that he relied on in mentioning his various novels on the biography of Nur al-Din Mahmoud Zangi, which is one of the most extensive books that chronicled the state of Nur al-Din Mahmoud, and its achievements and state-building despite his struggle and wars With the Crusaders at a time when the conflict was most intense.
