Abstract

The poetic image is a very important element of the components of the linguistic poetic text, and its main function is to clarify and approximate the poetic meanings and connotations contained in the poetic text. This importance of the poetic image can be shown in the poem "Maha Al-Bain" by the Egyptian poet "Mahmoud Sami Al-Baroudi", which was the best example of classical Arabic poetry's commitment to formal expression as a means to clarify poetic meanings and purposes, rather than the symbol and myths upon which modern poetic texts are based. As a result of reading the selected text, multiple patterns of figurative formation appeared in the poem, and it was generally divided into two specific parts: The first section is the patterns of psychological and emotional formation that emerged from al-Baroudis psychological suffering when he was exiled from his homeland and his family due to his political position, and they are vague figurative formations. Features, the lines of its features are still formed by distortion, movement and emotional transformation of the poet after the axes of his life were turned upside down, and he is now revolving in the orbit of the spatio-psychological labyrinth in his exile. As for the second section of the patterns of figurative formation in the poem "Maha Al-Bain", it was formed from the transformation of the poetic discourse pattern after the true features of life became clear to Al-Baroudi. He alternated his position after reaching the point of no return in his exile, and after completely losing hope of returning to his past. Patterns of alternating images appeared that mimic this situation. It was also formed due to the continuity of disappointment and the accumulation of loss and self-consolation, some overturned poetic images that illustrate the reversal of the subjective position and philosophy of the poet while he is in exile. In addition to the emergence of some paradoxical images that confirmed this position of Al-Baroudi.
