Abstract

The research deals with the main reasons for the absence of the educational role of mosques, that role which mosques have always assumed throughout the Islamic eras, starting with the era of early Islam and later eras, the days when mosques were the usual place for knowledge, education, fatwa, judiciary, and administration of state affairs, in addition to their primary function in establishing the rituals of religion. Regarding the educational aspect, mosques were the basic schools and centers that from them and their corners glow the lights of knowledge that have always shone the darkness of ignorance and backwardness, and from which graduated countless number of scholars of knowledge. Then the research shows the decline and absence of this role in light of our contemporary reality and the reasons behind it, and then the research demonstrates the treatments that the researcher sees suitable for returning mosques to scientific and educational leadership and prominence.
