Academic Procrastination and Its Relation to Mobile Phone Addiction of the Students of Mosul University

Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify the level of academic procrastination among the students of Mosul University and to identify the significance of differences in academic procrastination among the members of the research sample according to the variables (sex, specialization, grade) and to identify the level of mobile addiction among the students of Mosul University The research sample consisted of (895) male and female students selected by the random stratified method of each research sample according to the variables (sex, specialization, classroom) and revealed the correlation between academic procrastination and addiction on mobile phone among Mosul University students. The University of Mosul for the academic year (2018/2019) distributed on (13) faculties, including (7) colleges of scientific specialization (6) colleges of human specialization and to achieve the objectives of research researchers adopted the scale of academic procrastination prepared by (Abbas, 2017) and the scale of addiction to Mobile phone built by the researchers and verified the validity of the scale by adopting (virtual sincerity, construction sincerity, self-honesty) The stability was calculated in two ways are (re-test method, internal consistency method using the Alpha-Crow Nebach equation) and after the application of the two data were treated statistically using the program Statistical Portfolio of Social Sciences (S The results showed that the level of academic procrastination among the students of Mosul University is within the intermediate level. The presence of statistically significant differences in academic procrastination between the members of the research sample according to the sex variable (males / females) and for the benefit of males and the presence of statistically significant differences in academic procrastination according to the variable of specialization (scientific / human) and for the benefit of human specialization and the presence of significant differences in academic procrastination Depending on the grade variable (second / fourth) and in favor of the second grade. The level of mobile addiction among Mosul University students is within the intermediate level. The presence of statistically significant differences in mobile addiction among the members of the research sample according to sex variable (males / females) and in favor of males and the presence of statistically significant differences in mobile addiction according to the variable of specialization (scientific / human) and in favor of human specialization and the presence of significant differences In the light of the results of the research, the researchers came up with some recommendations, including the need for universities to hold educational seminars for students in order to reduce the negative effects associated with academic procrastination and excessive use and tide. The researchers suggested conducting the study of academic procrastination and its relationship with other variables such as (exam anxiety, satisfaction with the study, habits of recall) as well as the study of addiction on the mobile phone and its relationship with other variables such as (social anxiety, feeling of loneliness).
