Abstract

Expressionism is an artistic movement primarily based on expressing emotions, feelings, and inner sensations evoked by external objects. It is one of the most subjective art movements, emphasizing that a work of art should be a reflection of its creator's personality. The more personal it is, the more beautiful it becomes. This implies that the absence of personal expression or authenticity in an artwork is a fundamental indicator of its aesthetic failure. Upon analyzing the poem Batool by poet Bushra Al-Bustani, I found that her poetic expression aligns with the characteristics of Expressionism. Her approach focuses on internal emotions rather than the impressionistic style that mimics external reality. The poet indulges in an extensive outpouring of emotions throughout the poem, maintaining a consistent interplay between the opening and closing sections in a manner that conveys her psychological depths. Additionally, there is a notable correspondence between the poems structure and its symbolic significance.
