Abstract

Current research aims to study commercial structure of Sumer Street on left bank of Mosul city, in addition to its locational and positional characteristics to highlight reasons for its emergence, determine its location , features and functional characteristics regarding patterns of commercial functional units. Continued increase in population of Mosul city , size of population clusters in its residential neighborhoods and their need for goods of all kinds created necessity of allocating another area within Mosul city to provide such goods, as in the commercial strips that appeared such as commercial street in Sumer neighborhood. Increase in population size in Mosul city is not only accompanied by a change in number of citys population, but also by a change in structure, including commercial . It is not limited to number of its commercial units with all components of commercial structure as well, such as commercial strips. When Mosul city began to expand , the need to expand commercial services emerged. When it was no longer possible to continue relying on commercial services in city center, where traditional market was located, need arose to establish second commercial centers, which became more popular after 2017 as a result of the damage that central market was exposed to .
