The Mamluk and Ayyubed Attitutes Towards the Mongol Invation
Abstract
656/1258. . . ( ) . The Mongol invation created a great dilemma to the Abbasid caliphate and the emirates emerged in the Islamic east, Syria (Al-Sham)and Eygpt. The Abbasid caliphate strove to confront this invation but in vain. The last Abbasid caliphate lost his life,as a result of this struggle. Then the Abbasid caliphate collapsed in 656A.H/1258A.D.The Mongol advanced beyond the Iraqi boundaries towards Syria, where the last Ayyubed and Crusaders governers were ruling. In Eygpt ,the Mammluk dominated, headed by the victorious Sultan Kutz. Each of those had his own attitude towards the coming dangers from the East. Some were safe, others were afraid, and still others wanted to flee, leaving their country.Among all those, the victorious Sultan Kutz showed his readiness ,to fight the Mongol outside Eygpt, taking into consideration the Imam Ali Bin Talibs famous statement: Any pepole who are invaded at home are verly insulted. He devoted all his efforts, collected money and hightened the morale (spirt),till they managed to defeat the Mongol in Ain- Jalut battle in Ramathan.
