The role of the International Criminal Court in protecting women from sexual violence

Abstract
The Preamble to the Statute of the International Criminal Court states that Bearing in mind that during the current century millions of children, women and men have been victims of unimaginable atrocities that have shaken the conscience of humanity. There is no doubt that the mention of children and women is a clear and explicit reference to the fact that the Court is not a court dealing with punishment but also a court of humanitarian law.
