The Punitive criminal policy for confronting human trafficking crimes : A comparative study.
Abstract
The criminal legislation in question has adopted a stringent policy toward human trafficking offenses, imposing severe penalties, including imprisonment with fines, and categorizing these offenses as felonies. This approach aims to combat human trafficking by deterring offenders through harsh penalties and discouraging potential perpetrators, recognizing the significant threat these crimes pose to both individuals and society as a whole. The legislation includes numerous aggravating factors in sentencing, designed to protect vulnerable members of society. However, it also outlines conditions under which penalties may be reduced, allowing for a lesser sentence when specific criteria are met. Furthermore, there are provisions for cases of exemption from punishment under certain circumstances, which may grant the offender immunity if particular conditions are fulfilled
