Abstract

Academic freedom is a fundamental pillar essential to the growth, prosperity, and advancement of universities. However, merely recognizing this freedom within academic institutions and universities is insufficient to guarantee its actual realization. Like other rights and freedoms, the extent to which academic freedom is respected and upheld is closely tied to the nature of the political system in place. In countries with democratic systems that value human rights and freedoms, academic freedom is often respected and encouraged. Conversely, in nations with non-democratic systems, academic freedom tends to be disregarded, particularly in societies where citizens lack a strong belief in rights and freedoms as core principles. Numerous obstacles hinder this freedom and, in some cases, effectively suppress it. In our research, we will identify and analyze these challenges, offering solutions to eliminate these barriers and promote academic freedom.
